Job Title: Environmental Educator at The Burton 4-H Center:
Live and work on beautiful Tybee Island, Georgia, located near historic Savannah. Inspire young people through experiential outdoor learning at our residential education center. Teach classes on coastal ecology including beach and marsh ecology, reptiles, seining in the ocean, sea turtles, etc. A majority of students attending our 3-day/2-night field study programs are 4th through 8th graders. Extensive training is provided covering coastal ecology and environmental education. Internships are available. Season begins in early September and continues full-time through May.
REQUIREMENTS: Commitment, genuine interest in child development, enthusiasm, well-developed communication skills, creativity, and leadership ability; Bachelor's degree in Education, Natural Science, Environmental Education, Biology, Outdoor Education, or related fields preferred. Staff do not chaperone children overnight.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Primary duty is teaching environmental education classes to children with an enthusiastic and positive attitude. Secondary duties include caring for our live animals and assisting in daily upkeep of facilities. Normal hours are 8:30 - 5:00 Monday through Friday and two weekday evenings.
BENEFITS: $8.45 per hour at 40 hours per week ($338 per week). Overtime paid for hours beyond 40. Extra pay available for experienced candidates. On-site staff housing provided for small fee. A once in a lifetime chance to live on a barrier island one half mile from a beautiful beach.
